Alright. I’ve had a few drinks and I’d like to share an experience that aligns with a current debate about consent going on. About how “just tell him no” isn’t enough. Thread.
A couple of years ago, after an event, a guy I had reason to trust offered to let me crash at his place. I told him he was cute but I wasn’t interested in sex. That I don’t bang guys I’m not dating. He said fine.
All I want is to crash, but he’s grabby AF. Trying to take my clothes off. Putting my hands on his junk. I told him to fuck off. I guess he thought I was playing hard to get?
At one point, I even yelled “dude, wtf is wrong with you? I told you to back off” Cut to the next day, he’s at it again. I’ll leave those details out.
Long story short: if someone you’re trying to fool around with pushes your hands away, don’t assume they’re playing hard to get. Assume they don’t want you.
And even if they’ve given you the whole Gran Turismo of sex, they still get to opt-out any time. Any. Goddamn. TIME.
Also, please stop saying that being able to beat these guys up is the answer. Yeah, I totally need an assault charge because I punched a dude who put his hands down my pants.
