Black History Month is by no means all about slavery, but it does provide an opportunity to reflect on how vast of an institution it was. It was massive.

12.5 million people were shipped across the Middle Passage & a quarter of them were children. 10.7 million people survived.
The number of enslaved Africans brought through the Middle Passage is equivalent to the entire population of Pennsylvania today. Consider how expansive that is. How colossal the entire slave trading industry was.
I think ppl can have a difficult time conceptualizing how many ppl were brought across the Atlantic Ocean *in ships*

More than 20,000 trips took place in the transatlantic slave trade. Tens of millions of people brought across the ocean in wooden ships. It’s wild to think about.
