First, he see hysteria, I see a threat. He sees a boogie man, I see a concrete enemy. I didn't care one bit about Russia before 2016 until they attacked us. Now I care.
Second, history does not repeat itself but it echoes, as it were. Yes, I have argued that uniting country against a common enemy would do a lot to break the dangerous polarization threatening to rip the country apart. But new Cold War ain't gonna be the old Cold War.
Third, in uniting the country against a common enemy, we would benefit from a liberal strain of tribalism. Everyone who wants to be on the side of liberty, equality, justice for all, for America, we got your back. Everyone who wants autocracy, against America, can fuck off.
