We could soon be a nation where blue states ban assault weapons and red states encourage their proliferation everywhere (carrying a gun is legal in BARS in Georgia for example). Sane people and companies will be able to make decisions about where to live and locate accordingly.
Federalism gives Americans the opportunity to create the societies we want at the state level by exercising the power of the vote to change any state legislature that won't protect us, and by voting with our tourism dollars and our feet.
My husband and I vetoed any college choice by our kids that involved an open carry or campus carry state. States awash in guns were off our list. Parents' college dollars matter.
And if I was still in Florida and my kids were still young we would pull them out of any school where guns were being carried. In a New York minute. I refuse to live, work or let my kids go to school where warlords are lurking and politicians worship guns over human life.
The @NRA has sold savagery as freedom and barbarism as liberty for long enough. They don't deserve to tell the rational majority what to do. Politicians who insist on being obedient to them rather than doing what the vast majority of their constituents want don't deserve to lead.
