BREAKING: @CBSMiami reports Nikolas Cruz's gun jammed after he changed magazine clips, forcing him to end his attack. #WBZ
This is likely the evidence that Sen. Marco Rubio was referencing during a CNN town hall when he said, "Three or four people might be alive today because of something this deranged killer did, had to do."

That is why, Rubio went on, he might now support limits on magazines.
Eight states and D.C. have laws banning large-capacity magazines: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York.

Florida does not ban large-capacity magazines.
Mass shootings involving large-capacity magazines resulted in 135 percent more people shot than shootings *without* them, according to a 2009-2013 study from Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
The mass shootings at Columbine; Ford Hood; Tuscon; Aurora; Newtown; and Parkland (among others) all involved large-capacity magazines.

In the Tuscon incident (in which Gabby Giffords was shot), the attack ended when the shooter was tackled while trying to reload his gun.
There's some good info here from @GiffordsCourage (important to note: they're in favor of laws limiting magazine capacity) about the history of magazine laws in the U.S. and the states that currently ban large-capacity magazines. lawcenter.giffords.org/gun-laws/polic….
Clarification: @CBSMiami reports that law enforcement *believes* Cruz's gun jammed. It has not been determined definitively at this point.
