1/9 It doesn’t require a line of code to hack most states’ voter files & derail the ‘18 election. Core file access is easy & legal. All party/campaign workers & volunteers have it. Tens of thousands of unvetted temp election workers have the full file. #failureofimagination
2/9 Ask yourself.-“How do I know if/when my voter address is illegally changed? What is required to illegally change my voter address?” Answers You won’t until you try to vote - Not much -a bit of research, voter file access, and imagination. #failureofimagination
3/9 Then ask yourself “If my goal is to destroy Americans faith in their elections, how many voters’ addresses do I need to change so that when they go to vote- they’re turned away? Which voters would scream the loudest? Who could I get them to blame?” #failureofimagination
4/9 1,000-10,000? Let’s say 50,000 Perhaps equally split between gop and dnc loyalists? Contested districts all the better. How about creating false attribution breadcrumbs giving each side “evidence” of the fraud perpetrated by “the other side”. Easy peasy. #failureofimagination
5/9 If that’s your objective, you can amplify that using polarized news sources and social media. Nationwide. The result? Complete distrust in the election outcome? Endless partisan investigations? Civil Unrest? A collapse of the towers of democracy? #failureofimagination
6/9 On 9/10/01 we ALREADY KNEW we had a new threat. A transnational actor had pledged to attack our sense of safety & liberty, targeted our symbols of commerce/defense in NYC/DC & planned to use jets as bombs. The 9/11 commission cited our #1 failure as a #failureofimagination
7/9 If in ‘98 when we discovered the Bojinka plot to use loaded airliners we had asked ‘If I was Osama what would I do?’- “red teamed” it a bit & took inconvenient but appropriate protective steps- The towers might still stand. America’s longest war might’ve been avoided. Imagine
8/9 Today we KNOW a new transnational threat attacked us. It’s focused on neutering us by fracturing our trust in each other & institutions. It’s target? Our elections. The weapons? Targeted corruption of voter files & weaponized social media/press. #failureofimagination
9/9 Imagine you are Putin. It isn’t hard to do. America has a soft underbelly. If your goal is to weaken us, what would you do? 2016 was just reconnaissance in force. A prelude to attack. Time to come together and harden ourselves. #failureofimagination

PPS. How would you know if someone applied for an absentee ballot in your name, had it sent to them, voted and returned it to your local county clerk? Answer- you wouldn’t! With voter file access that is extremely simple and a huge vulnerability to our system. More on that next.
