wrote this on FB and t=our twitter family is usually defensve, going all out to protect their candidates but this is a must read follow the thread... adapted from @daddyhope Facebook Page:
I am still waiting for someone to write the definitive book or at least an account of what happened in the GNU era looking at all the three sides of the government, the two MDCs and ZANUPF.
There was some good work done during this era by the government but there was a lot of rot too involving all the three sides.
ZANUPF and MDC ministers stole money and resources and unfortunately it seems not convenient to unravel the truth yet.
I have spoken to political actors from all the three GNU sides and the stories you hear of connivance, protectionism, deceit and moral bankruptcy are staggering.
It makes me sad when I see supporters of all these political entities fighting tooth and nail over a politics they don’t understand, appreciate and is divorced from their aspirations.
The political elite are connected regardless of their party political affiliations, they drink together, play golf together, sit on company boards together and even cheat on their spouses together.
In 2009 I was in Mutare covering a civic society meeting addressed by Morgan Tsvangirai and the then Manicaland Governor and Mugabe loyalist, Christopher Mushohwe.
After the meeting, they drove to the governor’s offices in the center of Mutare. Mushohwe had a huge office where they all sat and were going to address the media.
However, we were asked to leave the office for ten minutes, I left my camera running(recording) with my boom microphone sitting on the center table in the room.
What that Sony PD170 recorded is pure gold for my book. It made me realize that these men were all fighting for the top prize but that their personal interests were supreme to that of the citizenry.
The conversation between Mushohwe and the MDC’s Minister of Home Affairs, Giles Mutseyekwa was instructive. These people went beyond being adversarial politicians, they knew each other’s interests, families and advised each other on how to advance their personal objectives
using politics and their respective political parties. They shared information on what was happening in their parties and Tsvangirai even spoke of the problem ministers in the GNU from his side. Mugabe did the same although deceitfully by telling Tsvangirai and Arthur Mutambara
about what was happening in ZANUPF sharing anecdotes about who he didn’t like in his party etcetera. So as we head into another election, don’t lose your friends and family over politics. It is a game played using us but not for us.
Don’t be fooled by the tear dropping accounts of how they want us to live better lives. To these men and sometimes women, politics is a means to an end. That is why hard working MPs like @JessieFMajome are under attack from their own party colleagues and crooked
corruption poster-boy politicians like Obert Mpofu and Supa Mandiwanzira remain on the feeding trough. Until the citizen learns to play the game and understand the politician too, we will always be angry and left tearing into each other whilst they share another fine Chocolate
Bloc after a round of golf. @SiphoMalunga reminded me of this classic Karl Marx quote, “...the oppressed are allowed once every few years to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class are to represent and repress them."
It is as relevant today as it was then when Marx made that poignant observation.
