Netanyahu's presentation falls completely short. If the files are authentic, it shows what the world already knew - that prior to 2003, Iran had a program with military dimensions.

3. Netanyahu presents no evidence that these activities continued after 2003. And the US intelligence has consistently concluded that Iran is adhering to the current deal - which means it does NOT have a military dimension anymore.

A few thoughts on Trump's new Iran sanctions and massive escalation:

There is little doubt Trump’s sanctions will hurt the Iranian economy. But it is highly unlikely that they will succeed in forcing Iran to capitulate to Mike Pompeo’s 12 demands. >>
Obama tried the same with his sanctions -and failed. He only got Iran to show flexibility after he offered concessions, such as accepting enrichment on Iranian soil. Sanctions alone did not break the nuclear deadlock under Obama and it is even less likely to succeed under Trump>>
It is also clear that Trump has failed to push Iran’s oil exports down to zero. Iran will continue to export oil, making an Iranian capitulation even less likely. As usual, Trump’s policy has been heavy on bark, but not as heavy on bite.

Months ago I pointed out that if the EU didnt put down its foot and stop Trump from killing the #IranDeal, Trump would proceed to kill the next international agreement and then the next.

John Bolton's attack on ICC should be seen in that context.

Iran (un() Deal Day THREAD: 1) @realDonaldTrump hasn't been consistent on a lot, but he has been consistent on the Iran Deal. He's been against it for years and called it a "disaster" and "insane" on the campaign. So this time he's not flip flopping.
2) Pulling out of the deal may have been on faulty analysis of what we could achieve vis-a-vis a better deal. Wonder what @CIA @ODNIgov assessed was or was not achievable and if @POTUS thought he knew better
3) Also wondering whether this approach was based on any analysis that NO deal is better than THIS deal or was this an @WhiteHouse negotiating tactic that misfired

1. There's another curious thing in @netanyahu's "#Iran archive" story and it has to do with how much material was acquired. Netanyahu claims to possess "55,000 pages, plus another 55,000 files on 183 CDs" amounting to "half a tonne" of material. But the figures don't make sense.
2. Firstly, let's set aside how implausible it is to suggest, as @nytimes reports, that "Mossad operatives broke into the building one night last January, removed the original documents and smuggled them back to Israel the same night."

3. 55,000 is a lot of pages. At standard 80 GSM paper, that is around 2.5 kg per ream of 500 pages. Netanyahu claims to have the equivalent of 110 standard reams of paper which would weigh... just 275 kilograms.

1. The first slide of @netanyahu's powerpoint session tonight claimed that in 2017, "Iran moved its nuclear weapons files to a highly secret location in Tehran."

I think this slide was a give away for something.

Netanyahu didn't get his trove of images and files from #Iran.
2. Netanyahu shows a screenshot from Google Earth of Shurabad, a warehousing district in the southern reaches of Tehran. I'm no @bellingcat/@EliotHiggins OSINT ninja but let's see what is around there today.

3. The image Netanyahu used seems to be older than the most recent Google Earth satellite image, which is dated to 4/30/2018. One of the buildings next door has a shiny new red roof. Why use older imagery?
