Every paper has open data if they present a scatterplot.

1) Download WebPlotDigitizer automeris.io/WebPlotDigitiz…
2) Load a scatterplot screenshot
3) Select each datapoint
4) Download the .CSV file with each datapoint
We used this tool in a recent meta-analysis to extract correlation coefficients from papers that didn't report coefficients (only scatterplots), which is a common issue in meta-analysis sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
We validated the use of WebPlotDigitizer in our sample by looking at studies in our meta-analysis that reported BOTH correlation coefficients and scatterplots, finding high precision
It's also possible for WebPlotDigitizer to automate point detection (thanks to @EJWagenmakers for the reminder). Works pretty well, but sometimes you'll need to do some manual extraction

I recently reviewed my first Registered Report (RR). It’s one thing to read about the benefits of RRs on paper, but another to see them in action.

Based on my RR reviewing experience, here’s why I think the format should be adopted at every journal (especially the fancy ones)
But first, what are RRs? In short, the RR is a relatively new format in which manuscripts are reviewed in two stages: before the data is collected and after the data is collected and analyzed cos.io/rr/
When RRs have been presented to undergrads, they often remark, “Wait, isn’t this just science?”, which is a damning assessment of our current system... Just think about how different psych would be if RRs were the gold-standard for hypothesis driven research over the past 30 yrs

You’ve worked hard putting together a presentation so why limit it to the people sitting in your talk?

Here are a few tips for repurposing your talk for sharing on social media
1. Add your twitter handle on your intro slide and encourage your audience to tweet. Limiting the text on your slides will also encourage tweets. If your text isn’t tweetable then there’s too much text.

Even if people are reading it, they’re not listening to you
What’s better than big blocks of text?

Images!

Use @unsplash for a huge library of free and high quality images that don’t require distracting attribution text at the bottom of your slide

Thread: Yesterday I tweeted about a large number of accounts tweeting the same statement supporting Ted Cruz. Ted has a pinned tweet with a button that allows anyone to tweet the same statement. At first, I assumed the activity was organic because of the button, I was wrong. 1/5
I immediately noticed many of the accounts supporting Ted Cruz were confirmed trollbots that are being tracked by BotSentinel.com. Hundreds of suspicious accounts were amplifying Ted Cruz's message, and at the time of this tweet, they are still active. 2/5
I decided to analyze the accounts tweeting the statement to determine the percentage of trollbot vs non-trollbot accounts. I analyzed 2475 accounts that tweeted the statement within a 15 hour period. 858 accounts were trollbots, that is approximately 34%. 3/5

UCC had opportunity to comment on the #Data.Protection & Privacy Bill. The enactment of this law is long overdue. A comprehensive law on the collection & processing personal information gives effect to the right to Privacy envisaged under Article 27(2) of the Constitution
UCC welcome the protections offered by the Bill in terms of export of data, breach notification requirements, data subjects access rights, automated decision making, compensation and the right to be forgotten and provision for financial and penal sanctions for breach of the law.
Distinction between Data collectors & data controllers.
The Bill should however clarify & distinguish Data Collectors, from Data Processors & Data Controllers. Clause 2 is inconsistent with international good practice which provides for two broad categories of Data Controllers

So, a few months ago I submitted my first paper with open data. A couple of weeks ago, the paper got rejected because of the data I shared. Let me tell you, this experience has been quite a rollercoaster ride. Thread 1/n
When preparing the data, I scrutinized the hell out of the files. I wanted to make sure the variable names made sense to anyone who stumbled across the data, I quadruple checked all of the analyses. I posted the r script. Surely, there was nothing that I missed, right? 2/n
Turns out, NO. I get the unexpected editors decision that my paper was flat out rejected. I was quite confused because this paper is actually pretty important, and I thought for sure this journal would find it interesting. I was upset, so I put it aside for a day. 3/n

3/ co ciekawe, listy wysłał również do tych sędziów, którzy powołali się na Konstytucję, wyrażając wolę dalszego urzędowania i nie dołączając zaświadczeń lekarskich. Co ciekawe, takiego listu nie wysłał do PSN Iwulskiego. Ten również stwierdził, że nie dołączy zaśw. lekarskiego.
