D.C. Circuit gets it right! In #McGahn @realDonaldTrump argued blanket immunity for advisors. But D.C. Circuit ruling says no. The executive branch cannot just ignore checks & balances, including legitimate congressional oversight. #NoOneIsAboveTheLaw #NobodyIsAboveTheLaw

"No president is a king. Congress and the courts have vital, co-equal roles to play in our democracy. The en banc rehearing of the McGahn subpoena case offers a new chance to get it right."

Tonight, @realDonaldTrump commuted the sentence of his partner-in-crime and convicted felon Roger Stone. Stone was convicted of 7⃣ counts of lying to Congress and witness tampering related to the Trump campaign's ties to Russia. /THREAD…
In the words of @RepAdamSchiff, "With this commutation, Trump makes clear that there are two systems of justice in America: one for his criminal friends, and one for everyone else."

It's just another example of a president who thinks he is above the law.
The truth is, we shouldn't be surprised. But we should be angry. The Senate had the opportunity in February to hold Trump accountable for his lawlessness. But instead, they let him get away with it.

Big Win! #SCOTUS explicitly rules in Vance that the President is “subject to the law.” Major blow to his argument that he is absolutely immune from legitimate investigation #NoOneIsAboveTheLaw #NobodyIsAboveTheLaw #Vance
This is the key quote -- affirming exactly what 37 former GOP Members of Congress, agency heads, and legal experts said in our amicus brief. Read #SCOTUS’s full ruling here:… Image
“The President is subject to the law” -- exactly right. Really critical language from SCOTUS today. Trump’s attys made stunning ahistorical argument for absolute immunity -- Court rejects Image

Something remarkable is about to happen at the House Judiciary Committee hearing: 2 DOJ whistleblowers will give sworn testimony that @realDonaldTrump & AG Barr are interfering in the fair administration of justice.

TUNE IN & follow this thread for more.…
Since day 1, @realDonaldTrump claimed an “absolute right to do what I want to do with the Justice Department” and abused his power to coerce law enforcement to serve his own personal political interests, protecting his friends and targeting his enemies. This is what dictators do.
White House interference in law enforcement matters involving specific parties isn’t just wrong, it’s unconstitutional. Want a deep analysis? We’ve got you covered:…

🚨5 key takeaways from today’s pivotal #SCOTUSLive arguments in Mazars, Deutsche Bank, & Vance -- all cases dealing with whether or not the president has immunity from accountability👇👇 #NoOneIsAboveTheLaw #NobodyIsAboveTheLaw
1⃣As expected, Trump & DOJ attys portrayed Congressional & grand jury subpoenas as unprecedented and overreaching, when really *their* push for an imperial presidency is unprecedented...and dangerous. #NoOneIsAboveTheLaw #NobodyIsAboveTheLaw #SCOTUSLive
2⃣Trump’s attys pretended scope+scale of Trump investigs/pres subpoenas were new. But Washington, Jefferson, Monroe, Jackson, Buchanan, Grant...not to mention Nixon, Ford, Carter & Clinton would disagree! Receipts in our amicus brief. #NoOneIsAboveTheLaw…

Dunne clarifies: key diff is showings. DOJ is saying prosecutor must go to fed court & make affirmative showing that needs critical info from POTUS. THEN burden shifts to Prez to show too burdensome. #NoOneIsAboveTheLaw #SCOTUS #NobodyIsAboveTheLaw

Sekulow harping on local prejudice -- but there have been over 2 years for local prosecutors to abuse their authority and score political points by filing frivolous lawsuits. Hasn’t happened -- and no reason to think it ever will!

Gorsuch skeptical: how is this more burdensome than what happened in Clinton v. Jones? (Indeed, we all want to know!) #NobodyIsAboveTheLaw #SCOTUS
What’s to stop NY from seeking deposition of POTUS?? Sekulow asks.

But presidents have sat for depositions before and the Republic (and the presidency) has stood! Image

Roberts asks whether the number of committees should matter. Does more committees mean more harassment? What about subpoenas from state District Attorneys? If the president is just getting a subpoenaed a lot overall, should that factor into analysis of a particular subpoena?
Concerning line of q's frm Roberts. If a POTUS is suspected of criminal activity, corruption, conflict of interest, all the relevant bodies w/legal authority may be able to investigate -- & should. #NoOneIsAboveTheLaw #NobodyIsAboveTheLaw #SCOTUS
Do we want a system where POTUS w/MORE cause for concern are MORE protected from investigation? #NoOneIsAboveTheLaw #NobodyIsAboveTheLaw #SCOTUS

Hoping to be out of work in time to meet up with the protest somewhere on its route. #NoOneIsAboveTheLaw
The New York protest against the removal of Rod Rosenstein is way bigger than I thought and will grow by the minute. #TimesSquare
Notice how at the #ProtectMueller protest in Time Square you dont see any shields, armor, billy clubs, tiki torches, swastikas, confederate flags, racist or homophobic signs? That's because THIS is what "fine people" look like.

1/At 5pm this evening, hundreds of thousands of American Citizens are expected to March in over 900 scheduled Marches to protect the Mueller Investigation. In light of what has happened in Thousand Oaks-the loss of another 13 beautiful souls-I pray that we'll also see some
2/#GunControlNow marchers. Katy Tur just pointed out that while Trump rails threats @ the Migrant Caravan heading for the Southern Border, there is a tremendous #GunControl issue, a crisis in our own country that is not being addressed by this Administration despite shooting
3/after shooting, death after death, & tremendous public outcry. I lived thru the #SandyHook shootings because we live in close proximity & at the time, I had grandchildren in Newtown. Unless you've been thru it you can't IMAGINE how heart wrenching it is. This. Must. Stop.

FYI if you see reporting on “grassroots activists”with #TrumpIsNotAboveTheLaw protest @WhiteHouse & nationwide today 5pm EST, here is back story: protest is “powered” by @MoveOn with a “nonpartisan” 501(c)4 lobbying org that acts as defacto @DNC. #transparency #followthemoney
2) Hi @CNN @wolfblitzer @CillizzaCNN you are reporting the protests at Time Square without telling viewers that @MoveOn, a partisan lobbying group organized the protests nationwide. See my thread. It’s no secret.
3) FYI you should know the organizer too @JFKucinich @thedailybeast and report it’s partisan @MoveOn that organized the protests. They are not “grassroots.” They are AstroTurf via a lobbying group.

Today, President Trump called for the end of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. We believe this is unconstitutional interference by the President into specific cases at the DOJ because he is trying to use the power of his office to protect himself and his allies.
On January 20th, the President raised his hand and swore an oath to the Constitution. The Constitution requires that he “take care that the laws of the United States are faithfully executed”. The Constitution is not a buffet, he doesn’t get to pick and choose what to follow.
Calling for the end of the investigation is consistent with a pattern of behavior where Trump has demonstrated that he thinks he is above the law. #NobodyIsAbovetheLaw It is also consistent with his belief that he can interfere or threaten the Department of Justice.
