On the occasion of #VijayDiwas sharing details of the epic Battle of Basantar in the 1971 War, one of the most critical and intensely fought battles ever, that had some astounding acts of bravery.
Shakargarh is a small tehsil town on the West bank of the Ravi river, originally a part of the Gurdaspur district, but transferred to Pakistan after Partition as per the Radcliffe award. Pretty much a sleepy small town, like most in Punjab.
It however was one of the major theaters during the 1971 India Pakistan War. The battle theater was more specifically the Shakargarh Bulge, which is basically a protrusion of Pakistani territory into Indian one.

#VijayDiwas:

22 yrs ago, while our soldiers were risking their lives to safeguard our nation, the political class in India had witnessed 2 camps. One camp was the nationalist camp, with leaders like Modi who went the extra mile in meeting our soldiers & motivating them.

Contd..
Whereas on the other camp, it was the Kangressis who left no stone unturned in humiliating our own Army!!
Here is one quick example which shows the level to which kangress leaders could stoop down to: In one of the parliamentary sessions during the war, the Kangress party dismissed the whole efforts of our soldiers, and directly called it "BJP's war".

The story of liberation of #Bangladesh starts in the year 1946 with the Muslim League (ML) winning an overwhelming majority in the then province of Bengal of Colonial India.

Of the 250 seats in the province, the ML won 113 seats in the legislative assembly.

#VijayDiwas
The overwhelming victory of the ML was a vote for a separate Pakistan based on religious majority. Within a year India was divided on religious lines into the States of India and Pakistan.

Muslim majority areas of Bengal became East Pakistan.
Though united by religion, East & West Pakistan were divided by language & Culture. The dominance of West Pakistan in military & bureaucracy meant the East Pakistanis were always treated as second class citizens. Despite being larger in numbers.

When Kargil war was won, it was an occasion of great pride among the Indians, all of whom were lauding the Indian army. Amongst the celebration, there was one particular organization that was extremely sour-faced. The Congress party.
The grand old party, headed by Sonia Gandhi, had taken it upon herself to see to it that the Kargil war was dismissed and deemed unworthy. Irrespective of the government, army and even Pakistan agreeing on an Indian victory, Congress was determined to prove otherwise.
@KanchanGupta in his article for Rediff outlined Sonia Gandhi’s take on the war. He wrote, “In spite of its best efforts to portray India’s thumping military triumph over Pakistan & unprecedented diplomatic success over Kargil as a “defeat” and a “failure”,the Congress
