Mauryan's ruled for 316 years (3+1+6=10, 1-Sun, 1-Aries/Fire/Mars as instogator) from 1534 BCE to 1218 BCE(conservative estimate) at Girivraja as the capital of Magadha Kingdom (from where "Megiddo" is derived). Greeks named Pliny & Arrian suggested that -

-w/full vigor & he was a tyrant("Chandashoka" or Ashoka the cruel). Ashoka was seemingly a notorious ruler(personally decapitated at least 500 officials & said to have killed "99" half-brothers) & he converted to Buddhism even before the so-called Kalinga War.
Later, the legacy was renewed by Samudragupta of Gupta dynasty (ChandraGupta of Gupta dynasty was the contemporary of Alexander "the great"). "Ashoka"(coded word, 33-inscriptions & 13th edict says about his conversion to Buddhism-- all esoteric Indian/masonic numerology) -
-can be interpreted in many ways(such as A-Shakuni), but one particular is Aya-Shakas(good luck to Sakas, aya also means number four- Rahu/Moon/Mitra/Varuna/Masonry/Bheda all have great significance as per the universal architect numerology 4).
We know that Samudragupta maintained a close diplomatic relationship with the Shakas (Scythians/Saka-mlecchas as per ancient Indian texts). During the Mauryan/"Ashoka" times in India, there were 4 major religions- Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism & Ajivikas.
Ashoka's grandfather Chandra Gupta Maurya accepted Jainism in the last years of his life, & Asoka's father Bindusara was an Ajivika. Asoka's ministers, advisers, priests & majority of his subjects were Hindus, & upon whom Ashoka imparted his tyranny to convert to Buddhism.
After the tyranny of Ashoka, later rulers could have tried to restore a decent Hindu order as best possible, but failed in damage control or deliberately sabotaged from moles within & barbarians outside. That's why 'weak rulers' (vague terms/historical definitions) -
-or leadership was given as the reason(brainwashing) for Mauryan Empire decline. "Ashoka" derived from these 3 sources- Dharmasoka(Kanishka), Asokavardhana /Priyadarshi (Maurya 1500 BCE or before) or Mahasoka/SamudraGupta(succeeded Chandela-Chandal-Chaldean Chandravarman-
-Kayastha Varman of Yadav lunar dynasty)/Universal monarch/1 centralized govt. from India after the fall of Andhra Dynasty. Sakas, Darius (Darayavana/Dârayavauš), Alexander(Greeks were mixed lots & also predominantly associated w/Alina branch of the Anus), etc.--
- one after another invasion into India all during those times & after. Who was Chanakya? Arthashastra declare its author as Kautilya & not Chanakya. Were they the same person or Chanakya came much later than the Kautilya/Kautilyas.
In any case, Kautilya & Chanakya are both Upadhis (honorary titles) given in ancient India & not names of the persons as such. Generally speaking, for entering politics & finance, you need to be a super-crook. Chanakya also imparted his ideas on marriages & datings; -

'Kautilya' comes from Sanskrit Kutila, which means crooked/perverse/zigzag/fraudulent/political. Chanakya (Hebrew honorary "Chanakya" is derived from Chanakya) comes from chāṇaka, which means particular mixed caste, -
