Fight fascism.
Whether it’s Roseanne or your aunt or your neighbor. WP have let the terror of racism go unchecked, now we live under a fascist wanna be dictator.
Fighting fascism starts with you, up close, in your space.
Fascism expert @massagessen says we can’t trust institutions to save us from fascism. We can’t trust congress to rid us of the rotting head. What do we do with this hate and shift hard right? It’s global.
Solution is local.
We fight in our spaces having uncomfortable convos.
WP must immediately call out their racist af WP friends and family. We all know the ones who send the “joke memes” and make the comments meant to get us to agree with their vile terror views. Stop that ish WP. Stop enabling facism. Somebody you love, loved Roseanne. Why? Ask why?
When the wp you know try to enlist you as a fellow KKK member in on the racist “joke” ask why? Why does this racist person you know think you’ll go along and stay silent? Is it because you stay silent?
Why are we still coddling this romanticized idea of the idealized WWC who are purportedly the “real, heartland America”?
They aren’t.
They don’t speak for the majority who live on the coasts.
Stop coddling racists who cling to “tradition “ when that “tradition” is white terror.
Roseanne was premised on the idea that “real WWC Americans “are good hearted” even if they “don’t know any better” and make “mistakes” about race.
Bull.
These ppl know exactly what they are doing, they 👀 around, see who’s there, turn to you, lower their voice and spew hate.
. @nytimes, read it since I could as a teen. Learned they reported early signs of genocide during my holocaust studies class. Now they normalize Nazis in pretty suits every other week. Editorials acting like white supremacy is a valid viewpoint, simply a counter to liberalism.
This is NOT normal. Fascism is alive and thriving in the White House, the @HouseGOP the @SenateGOP, on sitcoms (Roseanne isn’t the only one) and even on the pages of my formerly beloved @nytimes in and it lives in your corner coffee shop too.
Fight fascism.
Speaking up for racial justice (SURJ) has chapters and resources nationwide to help wp figure out how to confront their own heart on race and how to be an effective advocate on racial justice. Help is out there. Seek it. Learn it. Live it.
Fight fascism.
