I keep reading that refugee children may never be reunited with their parents. Why weren’t the kids issued something like a hospital wristband, with their names and that of a parent? It could list the last known home town.
B) If the parents filed for asylum, DHS would have their info, including names of their children and birthdates. It wouldn’t be that hard to match them up.
C) Airlines that transported kids will have names, birthdates, contact info for them from their manifests. Perhaps @AmericanAir @united @FlyFrontier etc can compile a master list. Yes, privacy concerns, but the info is there.
We have reunited kids and parents after wars without computerized data. I refuse to believe this is permanent. However, it raises another question: why would you transport babies, toddlers and children into the US, at taxpayer expense?
Whose purpose does it serve to do this? You’ve surprised governors and mayors. You’ve added more kids to the foster system. You’ve actually created more undocumented minors. It’s one thing to create a “deterrent” but these are actual children.
Fedex packages are tracked more carefully than these kids.
Back to this thread: we know kids were flown to WA, MI, NY, FL (more? Please share links). That’s four states with agencies now responsible for these kids. You have to figure the agencies are going to coordinate.
(I’m a former state government reporter, so I know how these things work). State attorneys general are going to compare notes. Governors obviously will talk. So will mayors.
Siblings can be helpful, too. Were they transported together or split up? Did Mama recently have a baby? What was the baby’s name? Kids know. And if state agencies become involved, the info can be shared.
Make a note today: there will be lawsuits. And lawsuits mean discovery. This will all come out. And those kids will find their parents. I don’t believe in “never.”
