hard to believe that a year ago i was just a regular, boring person with a very busy, boring job. 364 days ago, i lost my job. i did some consulting for a while, but as time went on, it became clear that my work is elsewhere now, that i'm not going back to an office anytime soon.

my consulting gig dried up in january. i lived on my savings. i cashed out my retirement. i realized around march that i'm actually already working full time. there's no way i could get a "real job" & still be at every meeting & hearing. so i stopped looking.

it's been a real struggle unlearning the indoctrination of our capitalist society. i still have a hard time with the idea that what i'm doing now is work, but it absolutely is. i commit more time & energy to my current work than i did as a project manager working 60 hours a week.

it still feels weird and crass to come to you, hat in hand, asking for anything at all. but until we dismantle the oppressive system of capitalism, we still have to live in it. the savings i have won't last forever. i have nazis to fight, but also bills to pay.

at a hearing last month, i was chatting with a member of our local radical clergy about my work. she grabbed my hands, looked into my eyes and said, "this is your calling." that sounds, perhaps, corny as hell, but she wasn't wrong. i'm giving this everything i've got. and more.

i'm not a believer in fate, but maybe i should thank my old boss for cutting me loose from a job that was killing me at that moment, in this place. a year ago i could talk your ear off about inventory management & agile planning. now it's nazi trial dates & antifascist actions.

i have been so lucky. i've met amazing people. so many of you support me in so many ways - you've fed & housed me at actions, sent me messages of love & support, shared intel, planned events, sent pictures of your dogs! i love you all & i'm so proud to be in this fight with you.
