1/ Dear Hard Brexiteers...we have a question... #Brexit
2/ do you think that if the UK had gone down the efta/EEA route that there would have been such a backlash against brexit? We don't. If you had promoted a EFTA based brexit we would probably be out of the EU by now.
3/ ...businesses would be breathing a sigh of relief, the economy would be booming, the #ofoc and #fbpe crowd would struggle to fill a taxi and would be seen as a fringe of dinosaur europhiles. The UK would be preparing to sign FTAs with countries around the globe.
4/ by promoting a hard Brexit you have re-energised and amplified the anti-brexit forces in the UK. Your desire for only a very specific and narrow form of brexit at the expense of all others will likely end up destroying it.
5/ your mismanagement of brexit will probably lead to such a backlash that we will be back in the EU in a few years, minus all out opt outs and with less vetoes. 😤👿😡 Great work BoJo, Baker et al. /End

1. Though I am an advocate of the EEA, I do not welcome the meddlesome interjections by @nickboles. He is a bluffer and he does not understand the EEA system - and because of that he will cock up the arguments and create more unnecessary opposition. (#Brexit thread)
2. We have already seen this dynamic in play. He was told that EEA could not be used as a temporary option. Only when slapped down by the Norwegian PM did it occur to him that he might be wrong and it took him a month to change his tune.
3. But that is no lodged in the minds of some that Norway has ruled the option out. So that wasn't helpful. But then he is still saying the EEA is instantly operable and the transition is simple. It isn't, It will require full cooperation from the EU.

Complaints that EFTA/EEA would make us a ruletaker with no say depend on ignoring the fact we would make up much of the influence we lose at EU level with what we would gain retaking seats at global standards bodies. And in any case, May's proposal offers nothing better. 2/4
EFTA/EEA is a ready-made framework that gets us out of the EU's political project without unprecedented economic disruption. In SM, out of CU, with FoM of workers not citizens. Yes, it's a compromise but an entirely sane one given the high stakes and narrow referendum result. 3/4

1. So the Norway option is back in the game. It's the one #Brexit approach that can work without a body blow to the economy. It's the only real way to avoid a cliff edge. Without it we will probably see an implosion of regulatory systems and this will simply stop working.
2. Typically any mention of the EEA sends the ultra Brexit loons into a tailspin. They have a crib sheet of counter arguments all of which are based on the most superficial analysis and do not stand up to scrutiny. So here is an unvarnished look at it...
3. Firstly we deal with the assertion we would be a rule take. Firstly, everybody is a rule taker - including the EU. Nobody makes all their own laws. Many based on international conventions and global standards. It is inevitable that we will adopt some EU rules.
