Looks like bad news in the fight against GOP racial gerrymandering in Texas, another case that has been stonewalled all decade by conservative judges
Texas is one of the most racially gerrymandered congressional maps in the country. Republicans should have drawn 3 more districts to elect Latino voters' candidate preferences, but the Supreme Court just let them get away with not doing so…
GOP gerrymandering in Texas likely cost Dems 5 House seats in 2016, more than any other state. The Supreme Court just reversed a ruling that found this map intentionally discriminated against Latinos, possibly costing them 3 seats……
Today's Supreme Court ruling is a win for GOP racial gerrymanders everywhere. We need to #RestoreTheVRA & take the power to redistrict away from partisan legislators to prevent these discriminatory maps
And if Trump ever gets to replace Kennedy or one of the liberals with another Gorsuch, the Supreme Court could be well on its way to throwing out the rest of the Voting Rights Act as far as racial gerrymandering & intentional discrimination in redistricting are concerned
Nearly every Southern state could have drawn another congressional district after 2010 to elect a black or Latino candidate. The Supreme Court's ruling in Texas today makes it much likelier that a similar injustice could happen after 2020 #RestoreTheVRA
New: Supreme Court overturns ruling that threw out Texas' GOP congressional map for racial discrimination (post in progress)…
