The Ocasio-Cortez upset was all the more striking and important because it happened in NYC, a culturally liberal city with a rigid, wildly out-of-date political structure & laws that discourage competition & voting

It’s gonna be convenient for a lot of Dems to act like AOC won b/c Crowley blew it. But that would ignore what happened in other Dem primaries in NYC last night that divided on generational lines. This wasn’t just about one incumbent and his flaws. nytimes.com/interactive/20…

Columnists often project their own interests and views onto voters. But this, from Andrew Sullivan, is so wildly detached from the lived reality of anyone involved in or reporting on, or in many cases voting in, the 2018 election.
You can argue that tribalism is a defining force - or the defining force - in American politics without making the kind of claim that suggests you’ve never talked to an undecided voter or visited a competitive congressional district or state.
(Re-reading it, the rhetorical choice to group health care — a life-or-death or bankruptcy-threatening issue for millions — with relatively abstract debates about “norms” and the executive branch is probably the most revealing part.)

Also, it’s the press’s job to fight for transparency. Local media often lacks the megaphone national media has in that fight. It’s a good thing when bigger outlets pay attention to this stuff, in general.
And at least as far as NY-based outlets go, the attention to AOC on this front is not unique — ask any NYC mayor. Heck, ask the current mayor who recently lost a big disclosure fight in court.

Caricaturing concerns about the spread of deliberate misinformation – like, say, Sandy Hook conspiracy theories – as a demand to "blacklist people I don't like" is about as intellectually dishonest as it gets
This is obviously bad-faith media bashing, of the kind that I normally try not to engage – there are good-faith complaints about the press that are far more worthwhile. But the debate about Infowars is important & the idea that it just presents a different point of view is wrong.
This @McCormackJohn thread was persuasive to me – if there's an argument against banning Jones, it's not about intellectual diversity

The Evidence Obtained Outside Cameras will not show any evidence of ‘tempering’ but other than license plates of dozens of diplomatic cars (Many with tinted windows-large trunks) with related time stamp, drivers Info, model/year: Nothing.
#Turkish Intel-Investigative Bodies also have the list of all Diplomatic & Private Saudi & “other significant’ Planes in #Turkey for the period of ‘interest.’ Many of the Target airports have their own security cameras & related evidence.

Besides the copious PR placements that claim otherwise, there's no proof that Brook Avenue Press ("a publishing house for urban literature for kids") was ever more than an idea she had in 2011. The web domain is for sale. The inc. is dissolved/annulled.

Notes: Schiller batched his expense reports. It’s possible to track his McDonalds’ purchases for campaign events by city, but not by DATE.
In May-June 2015, everybody in Iowa & NH seemed to require all campaigns to pre-pay for events. Makes sense: they know campaigns become deadbeats in 12 hours. Short notice rentals. Got soaked for NH campaign office.
Campaign held a rally at Phoenix Convention Center (owned by City of Phoenix) on 11 JUL 2015. Campaign double-paid for event: $7803 on 27JUL to City of Phoenix; $7803 on 31JUL to Phoenix Convention Center. Weird. A double pay like this may indicate a skim/diversion.
