Being in the tourism industry I have had to opportunity to travel to several countries & interract with people of different Nationalities. The general observation in the west & East is that Indians are highly regarded & respected but India is not. Particularly before 2014
Professionals from India - be they engineers , scientists , doctors, economists, especially computer experts - are admired as being amongst the best in the world. High technology companies in particular regard Indians as the best & most talented professionals
In contrast , India as a country and it's leaders commanded very little regard even attention. There has been a good change since Modi ji took over in 2014, During UPA rule Prime Minister of Singapore was probably better known in US than PM of India.
Not only China & Japan but even such countries as Taiwan & Korea command more attention than India. This is partly because of ignorance, but also because of the poor projection of India & our representatives. We tend to downplay our great cultural acheivements
We in .India tend to dilute anything Hindu & tend to Overblow some of the recently acquired slogans like "secularism " & project proponents of this sham slogan.Those who love India, however , hold the opposite view. They love India's great ancient heritage, the vedas , upanishads
They love Yoga, architecture, family values, scriptures, traditional food, ayurveda, siddha, and all that interests them & not the acheivements of its sham secularism . Upto 2014 Indian Government, it's ambassadors & representatives were trying hard to sell India's Modrenisation
India's modernisation & westernisation dosent matter much in the West. By world standards we simply don't measure up. We can't ape the west & beat them in their game. Modi ji has recognised this fact & has promoted Yoga as a worldwide brand from India.
Instead of protecting & promoting our rich ancient culture , we are busy aping the west. Its like throwing away prescious diamonds & hankering for broken pieces of glass.
