Here’s some good news from the courts for your timeline: Iowa’s 72-hour mandatory delay for patients seeking abortions was stuck down by the Iowa Supreme Court.
I was an expert witness in this case, and the scientific evidence was clear: mandatory delay laws unnecessarily push patients later in pregnancy before they can obtain an abortion (average delay of over 1 week), and it does not help decision-making. It was simply another barrier.
As the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (@theNASEM) noted in a recent report, mandatory delay laws are another example of medically unnecessary laws that worsen the quality of abortion care. nationalacademies.org/hmd/Reports/20…
