This is BIG news. Any corporation, consultancy and investment firm should sit up and take notice. The first ones to stop doing business with an agency that has systematically separated children from their parents will be remembered.

The ones that don’t will be, too.
While everyone is here, it should be noted that @Accenture has a $297 million contract for ICE and Border Patrol and have not made a statement.

And @Microsoft, despite CEO @satyanadella’s letter about the ills of the child separation policy and their own employees asking them to sever ties, continues to provide ICE with material support.

THE SLEEPING GIANTS 2018 YEAR IN REVIEW
1) January saw Steve Bannon go from the title of "Racist Blog Manager" to just "Racist" as he was deposed from Breitbart after only a few months back on the job. Of course, we had nothing to do with this, but it's nice to relive again. Just because it is.
2) After a year and a half of us screaming into the void about it, Unilever finally came out swinging against @facebook and other social platforms refusing to address the hate and harassment on their platforms. Still a long way to go, but...a massive step.

Quick thread: No one is making these advertisers leave this show. The decision is theirs. They have had meetings and decided that, to appeal to the most consumers they can, it is probably foolish to continue to support a show that denigrates many of them. hollywoodreporter.com/news/tucker-ca…
At the same time, Fox is making its own decision. They have opted to continue the divisive, bigoted rhetoric with zero regard for the consequences. By tripling down on these comments, they have basically told their customers (advertisers) that they don’t care about their brands.
No one is making anyone do anything here. These are all calculated decisions. The free market decides which ideas work and which don’t.

THREAD: For over two years, we’ve asked @disqus and new owner @ZetaGlobal how Breitbart’s comment section doesn’t break their very clear Terms of Service.

They have only offered tepid excuses, changing their story every few months.
This is just a very small sampling of the thousands of comments that have appeared on Breitbart’s @disqus-powered comment section. They’re not just racist, they’re incredibly violent.

Breitbart only moderates them when called out by the press.
This is from the @disqus site and it was posted a week ago. How can they continue to ignore these clear and continued violations?

It's important to look at the decision in itself. Even if you think it violates precedent, and therefore is hypocritical, it may be that the previous decisions were the wrong ones and shouldn't be repeated.
For example, if I used to throw my trash out the car window, arguing that it kept prisoners busy doing litter pickup, that's clearly stupid. If I now know it's dumb and stop doing it, that is a greater good than my being consistent by still doing it.

Popping back in from my break to say: Chris Christie turning down a job with the Trump administration is THE news story this week that made me sit up and take notice.

More than Cohen's sentencing. More than any documents that have been pored over. More than anything.
It's not that those other events aren't consequential.

Well, except they might not be. If we've learned anything in the past two years, it's that nothing is automatic. Consequences don't happen if people don't impose them, and in Washington, most of that's like stage-fighting.
Like how when you practice judo, you rely on your partner to help you follow through with the move. Or in pro wrestling, you need your opponent to "sell" the hit. There are enforcement mechanisms but the higher up the echelons of power you get, the more they rely on cooperation.

....as a long-time proponent of ebooks being cheaper than print books, dang if this argument didn't make me sit up and take note.

Being electronic is a *huge* value add to me.
Counterpoint: Electronic books never become "overstock", either. At a certain point you've got to get the hard copies off the shelf or out of storage, at which point you sell them at clearance, maybe firesale prices. Should that affect ebook prices?

I think at the end of the day, ebook prices and print prices just aren't as simple to correlate as cost of production vs. price. Putting out a print edition is a bigger gamble, which may necessitate cutting losses. Books with a physical presence may become loss leaders. Et cetera

In my opinion Rand Paul is in the know about it all. He uses words parsimoniously, rarely speculates and is almost always over the target. His demeanor is the opposite of braggadocio. Recall he called Obama administration against Trump "bigger than Watergate"(next post)
