What Democrat has requested a border wall made of steel?
TRUMP: "The border wall would very quickly pay for itself."

Absolutely no evidence of this. Trump cites the cost of illegal drugs, most of which come through official ports of entry.
TRUMP: "The wall will also be paid for indirectly by the great new trade deal we have made with Mexico."

This is not true. And the deal hasn't even been approved by Congress.

And like any examination of the unconscious you will see things on Twitter that fascinate you and things that disgust you. This is part of its attraction: the filters of discourse become permeable, allowing the unsayable to leak across.

Oooh, yay! Another big climate fear vs. hope debate. But srsly though, I've been studying climate comms since college ('07, go Tarheels!) and do actually get a weird joy from nerding out on this stuff. Hey, at least someone is thinking about it!
For context, @RoyScranton tweeted this and stirred up a bunch of backlash amongst activists for being a white dude who is newish to the convo pushing nihilism and doomism from his privileged perch. Let's dig into my humble opinions.
I don't know @RoyScranton or his work. In my brief twitter perusals, it seems he believes that many activists/journalists, etc are doing us a disservice in pushing sunny "we can do this!" solutions narratives that don't fully acknowledge the severity of the climate crisis

Libraries aren't just museums for books, people. Real life people come there for information on services to try to often save their lives. Info on doctors, domestic violence shelters, help to get jobs. Stop funding everything that rich folk want and leave libraries the fuck alone
When I worked in libraries people would come in desperate for information about their problems. They knew that it was safe, free, and somebody would at least try to help them without judgment.
know what else saveS folks lives? PLEASURE. There are still people who can't afford tv and streaming services. Maybe grandma just wants to read a juicy romance, maybe your weird uncle on public assistance wants to study ancient gardening techniques. LIBRARIES DO THAT. FOR FREE!
