Hello to all you angry Trump apologists! Just to address a common comment:
There is a clear difference between e.g. the UK lobbying Iran concerning the judicial treatment of a UK citizen, and the US lobbying the UK government re an ongoing case involving a UK citizen.

The obvious question is, “What on earth does it have to do with Trump?” The answer, namely their shared interest/obsession, does not need spelling out.
Also, given that Robinson himself is not appealing the finding of contempt (only the length of sentence (“committal”)), quite what this government “lobbying” seeks to achieve during a live criminal sentence appeal is unclear.
What is clear, however, is that any interference by the government in a Court of Appeal case would be a manifest breach of the separation of powers and a dangerous infringement of judicial independence.
For Trump to think this is acceptable tells you all you need to know about his respect for the rule of law and his respect for our country. If you think that this is anywhere close to an appropriate diplomatic exercise, you are probably too far gone to be helped.
