I was thinking about a reboot of the Six Million Dollar Man, and realizing that with health care costs, rather than bionic limbs the money would cover a knee replacement, prostate surgery, and maybe a two-week hospital stay for pneumonia.
Six million dollars in 1974 (the year the show debuted) would be over $30 million today indexed to core inflation, but with health care costs spiraling upward, you'd need more like $110 million to get the same bang for your buck on the bionic man front in 2018.
Rather than "Gentleman, we can rebuild him," the Six Million Dollar Man reboot would be like, "Gentleman, call his HMO, see if he's allowed the premium cable package in his room."
