Hey @Twitter. We need an update on verification. I’ll be honest - I’d like to take a crack at it. Not b/c of ego, but b/c it’s a fact that people RT check marks. By indefinitely stalling verification, you’re creating a permanent underclass of Twitter users. Not cool.
My website has a monthly readership of tens of thousands. I share critical information about democracy and elections. Meanwhile, reality tv show runners have check marks. Why?
Not to mention candidates. Our democracy is at a turning point. Your site has stalled or rejected actual candidates for political office while their well-established incumbent competitors get the glory of check marks. This creates a distinct advantage. It’s ridiculous.
You should either eliminate all check marks to level the playing field or put out your new policy. It’s been almost a y at. We’ve been patient. But this is creating an incongruity in the social media space and marketing disadvantages that are very impactful for newer accounts.
Fix it.
