EXCLUSIVE: Pay rise for @RoyalNavy, @BritishArmy, @RoyalAirForce today. Set to be a 2% rise, topped up by 0.9% “bonus” back dated to April. Not the permanent 3% boost that had been expected but 1st rise above 1% in 5 years. Will be welcomed

UPDATE: Pay rise confirmed by @GavinWilliamson. He says it is in "the spirit" of a 2.9% rise recommended by the independent armed forces pay review body. Though only 2% is an official rise & 0.9% is a "one-off" bonus for the year, which is a bit of a cost-saving fudge. 1/2
Pay rise = £370 boost to starting salary of a newly trained soldier, sailor or airman & a £520 uplift to starting salary of an officer.
The 2% rise back-dated to April will appear in September pay package, the other 0.9% (also back-dated to April) comes "later in the year" 2/2

REMEMBER: These are “Fallon frigates”. Michael Fallon as defence secretary trumpeted Type 31e budget warship as his answer to stopping surface fleet shrinking when Type 26 became too expensive to buy all 13 ships required. Many said a credible £250mln warship was a pipe dream 1/2
Now it seems there’s not even £ for a budget warship, while @DefenceES realises limitations a £250mln cap imposes. Given submarine threat, what use is a frigate without means to operate in hostile waters? @GavinWilliamson suggested ASW capabilities for T31 but that costs £ 2/2

#EXCLUSIVE: Dr. Ford’s father, Ralph Blasey IV, a Republican, is on the board of Columbia Country Club in MD. He stated through a family friend he is not publicly backing his daughter’s allegations because he believes he will lose his position with the country club.
The information was passed by a Blasey family friend who has invited both Dr. Ford and the author of the letter supporting Brett Kavanaugh to a wedding in the near future. This should most certainly make for an interesting dynamic if both were to attend.
In a statement to the Washington Post, Dr. Ford’s mother-in-law, Ruth Guthery, said she has “no idea” why the Blaseys have not shown public support for Christine. Guthery is also a Republican, and she voted for Trump. But she believes Dr. Ford and has signed a letter of support.
