This would be a smart thing to do, Americans. Paper ballots are completely doable. Many countries use paper ballots. HT @shanselman
I've voted in every election in Canada since age 18. How it has worked each time:
1. Walk 5 mins to polling station
2. Greet neighbours
3. Present ID
4. Get ballot & pencil
5. Put an X in a circle next to 1 candidate's name (like this: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:2008…)
6. Walk 5 mins home
Ballots are counted by hand. More details of how it works here: elections.ca/content.aspx?s…
The whole process takes me about 20-30 mins total each time, except one time when I was going to be away on election day. (It took longer that time because it's a longer walk to advance polling stations. I took my kids with me & the younger one was not yet a cooperative walker.)
Admittedly I've lived in relatively good-sized cities since age 18. People in rural locations often have a longer trip to the polling station. But it's usually still very doable, and they still get paper ballots.
Once I voted days after having a baby. Baby came along in a sling. I couldn't even sit yet, for goodness' sake, but I voted, and I was able to do so because it was so easy to do. A woman in a black tank top, black pants and short hair with a baby in a blue sling.
tl;dr Paper ballots are doable, easy, and, when combined with a system of reliable oversight, they are more trustworthy.
