true and why I won't shut up about it
There are so many issues facing us, it can become overwhelming. I do what I can where I can when I can, but the issue that I devote most of my effort to is fighting this disastrous GOP tax scam and fighting for a fair economy and, bear with me, I want to tell you why --
This tax bill had a singular goal, making the wealthy wealthier by giving them tax cuts (Trump and others bragged about how rich they were making the Uber-wealthy). These tax cuts have to be offset though, so what do they do? They look to cut programs we rely on. What programs?
Well just about all of them. What progressive issue grabs you most? Education? Cuts. Environment? Cuts. Healthcare? Cuts. Fighting poverty? Cuts. Immigration, marginalized peoples, voter rights, affordable housing, name an issue that you put your work and focus on -- cuts.
And those cuts that decrease programs about the issues we care about, make the rich richer. And know what the rich do when they get rich? Sure they buy yachts and take bigger vacations but there's still money to spend, so they invest it -- in buying politicians.
The NOW EVEN WEALTHIER wealthy make massive contributions to the campaigns of GOP candidates who promise they will work to serve those donors' bank accounts. And then? The extreme inequality in our country grows and the wealthy can effectively make themselves the "ruling class."
I fight the tax bill and fight for a fair economy because everything else I care about, all of the ways I want to make this country better for my children, for all children, depend on this fight.
