I've never met @tom_watson but I remember in 2016 when Ruth Smeeth, Naz Shah and Louise Ellman came to speak to the Jewish community in Manchester about antisemitism in Labour. Ruth told us about when she and Tom went to the Holocaust Museum in Israel, Yad Vashem. 1/
Tom posted about the experience on FB. The deluge of antisemitic abuse that followed shocked him. But Ruth said what shocked him more was how normal this was for her. How she was like.. "Oh this is everyday stuff."
She said Tom was angry with her. Angry that she wasn't seething after seeing all this antisemitism. Angry that her friend found it so ordinary Angry that this is happening. Angry because he cares. He cares about antisemitism, you see. He gives a shit.
This guy doesn't.
But this guy does. It's why he didn't take up his usual place in the chamber for the antisemitism debate and went and sat at the back, next to his Jewish friend, so he could support her.
So pity @AaronBastani - who has to spend so much of his time on Twitter attacking, discrediting and spreading conspiratorial nonsense about people's motivations for opposing antisemitism. Which, more or less, is what his occupation has now been reduced to.
