Chatting with my daughter recently about social change and she used the popular expression “speaking truth to power.”
She got the full dad lecture: “Power” only changes in response to power. Play by the rules and do the work make your way up and you’ll speak power to power.

The few people who have big influence move big things, lots of money, votes and real estate, elections and influence. They are immune to the noise of human voices.
It’s a lovely fantasy to change the system for the outside with a compelling argument.

Unfortunately, the people who built the system and the people who have the power to change it walk into work there everyday. To some boring old job, for the most part.
My final message was, don’t abandon your ideals. Quite the opposite. Give them strength and power.
