I may have embraced the binary labels "woman" and "lesbian" for the time being, as they feel like the most accurate and concise description of who I am, but don't think for a second that I'm not still queer as fuck
according to my current understanding of gender, I'm not 100% woman after all

but literally NO ONE is

and I am no less deserving of the word just because I'm trans
and I've already spoken at length about the other one
but "queer" is about being pushed into the margins, and pushing BACK

it's about accepting all the things about me that don't fit the dominant narrative, all my sharp edges and blurred boundaries, and not apologizing for any of it

because I have the right to exist. we all do.

as a trans woman, I've had a lot of people (even well-meaning allies!) tell me that no matter what I do, no matter how much I change my body, I'll always be male. and that it's not transphobic to say so. it's just science, after all.

let's talk about that.
the short answer is: yes it's transphobic, because I'm trans and I'm telling you so.

that's how it works for any marginalized group you don't belong to. we're more aware of what language is harmful to us than you are, and we don't always have the energy to explain
after all, I wouldn't even bring it up if it wasn't a problem, would I?

when someone says "ow, you're standing on my foot", your first response should be to move your damn foot, not say "but I'm not putting all my weight on it!"

realtalk: I, a trans lesbian, have turned down several trans women because I perceived them as being masculine in ways that I found unappealing. that's not transphobic. that's what an ACTUAL "personal preference" looks like

(and I didn't say that was why, because that'd be rude)
heck, once I've spent more time in the community, I fully expect to end up turning down some cis lesbians for the same reason. I love butches but not all of them are my type, y'know?
(also if you're reading this and I've turned you down in the past, don't assume that was why, I turn people down for all kinds of reasons)

btw, if this thread resonated with you and you still have a problem with phrases like "bisexual lesbian" or "pansexual lesbian", you missed the point

you can't approve of where I'm at without accepting how I got here
I say this because I and several of my mutuals have been harassed today for defending the use of such phrases. so once more,
I'm not even a huge fan of "bisexual lesbian" but the fact is that many women who are technically bisexual still call themselves lesbians, and have very good reasons for doing so, and it's pointless to attack them for it or try to cover it up

I've stood with black women since I was a child & my parents were Civil Rights workers.
I will stand with black women till my last breath.
If you do NOT stand with black women, ask yourself why.
As a #lesbian, I hope people will stand with/for me.
They don't always, because being an ally takes work.
But I welcome allies, no matter how long it takes folks to get there.
We must believe in people being able to #change.
None of us has perfect politics nor personal lives.
Every day people change.
People who were racists realize they were wrong.
Men who were misogynists realize women are people.
Homophobes realize they were wrong.

We all have the power to realize we have been wrong and to change.
Embrace change.
It's how we heal the world.

Let us suppose that you and I are standing in a crowd. You take a step. This step leads to you standing on my foot.

I say, "Pardon me, but you are standing on my foot."

You say, "I didn't mean too! It's not my fault!" but you don't step off my foot.
I say, "It's okay. We can talk about how it happened later. But for now, I need you to stop standing on my foot."

You say, "Oh my gosh! I'm not a foot stander! I'm so hurt and upset that you would ever think I'd be a foot stander! This is devastating!"

You still don't move.
