A Thread, and a question:
1. My wife and I are off to Italy at the end of this month to spend a few days at Cinque Terre. We land in Rome on a Monday morning, and will be there for two days, leaving Wednesday morning. My question to you:
2. How would you spend those two days-- knowing that we'll be weary the first day, won't really be free until the afternoon? We don't want to rush around like crazy people seeing every goddamned thing. More like, one or two things that will stay with us.
3. The first day we are likely to wander up to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish steps, and have some coffee. Later, a big dinner.
4. What about the next day? The Vatican? The Coliseum? The Forum? The Pantheon? What, what, what.
5. I have been there before, and have been to the Pantheon and the Vatican. I have not been inside the Coliseum, or seen the Forum. I have wept at the grave of John Keats in the Protestant Cemetery. @Keats_Shelley.
6. I would go to any of those places again, but I do lean toward seeing new things.
7. What I ought to do is, next time, spend a whole week in Rome. Or a month.
8. Instead, I ask you: how would you spend these precious days? I want to end my brief stay with a full heart. That's more important than seeing every last sight in the universe. (Yes, we will surely have some big meals.)
9. So tell me: what would you do? -XXX-
