I’ve spent the last few weeks thinking about my next move. But things are not as clear as before. I’m 38, so I spend a lot of time thinking what is an “age appropriate” decision to make.
Option 1: Join another big financial co in fintech that will allow me to scratch my creative itch.
Option 2: start another SaaS company. I love the business model, have done it on a small scale before, this time I can aim to scale more.
Option 3: I have a vision of doing something in open source. Something like Wordpress, but not for blogging. Wordpress for SaaS. Empowering a generation of founders with their first tech platform, all for free.
Decide my fate!
The older you get, the harder the decision becomes. Not only are you naturally more risk averse when you get older, but the money you can make as an exec hire in the corporate world dwarfs that of running your own startup (unless you utterly smash it)
But then of course, money isn’t everything and passion, independence, making the world a better place etc - all of these factors matter too. It’s a genuine conundrum once you’re in your late 30s.
Pleased to see the open source idea getting lots of votes. But I’m honestly terrified of the rails community ever seeing my code. I’ll be torn to pieces.
