1)Good to see someone jumping into the hot water of French-German nuclear deterrence. By the way, & unknown to nearly all policy makers and even many analysts+historians, we had a brief try at this in 1957-58 with the secret Strauss-Chaban-Taviani accords, declassified 25 yrs ago
2) of course, it was a very different world then, but in 1957 the Sputnik shock produced massive doubts about the credibility of America's defence guarantee. The reasons and the players are not the same today, but the doubts are there.
3) for those interested in the 1957-58 secret treaty (which was cancelled by de Gaulle when he returned to power) to build the bomb and its delivery systems together, there is plenty of in-depth analysis by Geoges-Henri Soutou & a chapter in my 'Secrètes Histoires' (Stock,2015)
