We are currently experiencing record droughts, wildfires, floods and natural disasters across the country and around the world. We need to be taking urgent action to address the effects of climate change. Simply put, this is yet another bad idea:
By the Trump Administration’s own analysis, 1,400 Americans will die prematurely and 48,000 will contract new asthma cases every year because of their decision yesterday to undo the Clean Power Plan. Read for yourself here: epa.gov/sites/producti…
By comparison, the Clean Power Plan would have PREVENTED 1,500 to 3,600 premature deaths each year by 2030. I am proud that Illinois is leading our nation in reducing carbon pollution and will fight to save the lives of Illinois families who deserve to breathe safe and clean air.

Judge Kavanaugh appears to have participated in a dark chapter of our nation’s history during the Bush Admin’s use of torture and cruel, inhumane treatment of prisoners – and he misled the Senate about it when he testified UNDER OATH in 2006.

My heart is heavy today as I join countless Americans across our country in mourning the loss of one of our nation’s greatest leaders and statesmen, one of my personal heroes, @SenJohnMcCain.
Throughout his life – as a Naval Aviator, a Prisoner of War who endured years of torture, a Congressman, and a six-term Senator – John repeatedly showed how anything is possible when armed with determination, a deep sense of patriotism and an unbreakable will.
His refusal to give up in the face of adversity inspired me when I was a mission-less helicopter pilot with no legs recovering at Walter Reed. In fact, I met him there for the first time when he visited us Wounded Warriors.

Need to talk about $PGE. They are a regulated utility, everyone's favorite whipping boy. CA doesn't shield their utilities from lawsuits as other states do, and this is a problem.
$PGE is squeezed by resi solar, by state mandates, and by culpability for any one of their tens of thousands of pieces of equipment failing. Understand that electrical infrastructure is not bulletproof. It does fail even if proper maintenance is done.
A utility is obligated to serve all customers, even if they choose to build / live in an area conducive to wildfires or other natural disasters. They can't say no. They must connect you and they must do so at a reasonable cost or there will be hell to pay.

Politics is central to this issue.

What a cop out.
(3) You are, of course, free to ignore politics as much as you wish. That's WHY millions have fought and died for the sake of liberty and freedom.

But for most people, if you ignore local, state, national, or international politics, then you're not being part of the solution.

My essay is only concerned with climate change-related damages in the US spurred, as I argue, by US actors like the oil majors. I could’ve written about Peruvian villagers suing a German energy giant & melting glaciers in the Andes, but that’s beyond the scope of my article.

Good questions @RedsforNamesake. If confronting #climate change is your priority, it is imperative to ramp up carbon-free energy asap.

1. NJ will now ramp up renewable energy from 13% in 2017 and 20% by 2020 under old RPS to 35% by 2025 & 50% by 2030. Impressive leadership.
2. To ensure that this new clean energy replaces fossil fuels and contributes to #climate mitigation goals, NJ's new laws also make payments to ensure the continued operation of 3 South Jersey nuclear reactors that currently supply 31% of the state's electricity consumption.
2. Cont.: That measure is essential and ensures that nearly all of the new clean energy growth over the next 12 years builds on top of the fossil-free foundation provided by the state's existing nuclear plants.

Short thread.
1. I didn't realize how badly Trump has eviscerated access to federal #climate data, so I went and looked at the USGS site.
2. In December, there were 5,932 climate science items linked there (9 were just pictures). Today there are 416 and 292 are just pictures.
3. In December 2016, 320 of those items were links to #climate data. Today, 0 links to data. 5,271 were web links. Now, 0 web links.
