Good summary of the three (known) illegal acts that may have helped Trump win the presidency. 1/ washingtonpost.com/news/politics/…
Since these acts clearly occurred & were clearly illegal, the article states that the only question is whether they actually swung the election. 2/
Now, let's be clear, that is an interesting, if fairly unanswerable, question. (And begs the metaquestion of the effect on the election of preelection knowledge of these three areas of illegal activity.) 3/
But... those inquiries miss the point that actually matters now. What matters now is the fact that we know now that President Trump broke federal election laws to aid his campaign for presidency. 4/
The real question is: should someone who broke federal election law in order to help his chances of becoming president be permitted to remain president? Should someone who lied, cheated & broke the law on the campaign trail be allowed to be president of a democracy? 5/
The answer is a resounding no. Breaking federal election laws on the way to the presidency demonstrates a fundamental unfitness for the duty to "take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed." 6/
A healthy democracy cannot & should not ignore actions by the executive that show a disregard for the law & a disdain for the even-handed administration of the rule of law. 7/
The upshot? Regardless of whether these illegal actions enabled Trump to become president, they categorically show why he doesn't deserve to be. 8/8
