THREAD // Moving Abroad And "Geo-arbitrage"

I've had a recent shift in thinking..

A lot of people will tell you you should move to a big city like NYC, LA or London to put yourself in the best position to succeed

But I don't believe that anymore...
The idea is that you'll meet all these super successful people who can help you advance your career and your business

But is that true?
My personal experience confirms it:

The people I've met online are far smarter, interesting, ambitious and all-around successful that just about everyone I've known offline

And they're HELPFUL too

I know if I have a question about copy, fitness, courses I can find an answer
Which brings me to living abroad

If you're planning on starting an online business or if you're a beginner, I don't see any point in living in an expensive western city

-My living expenses are like 30% lower in Mexico

-My quality of life is better

-And my business is growing
If you can grow your business AND reduce your cost of living at the same time... WITHOUT sacrificing your quality of life...

Why not do it?

Plus the quality of my network continues to improve as I make new connections

Something to think about...
This doesn't mean you live in the cheapest place possible

In my situation, I've been in Mexico City for almost 3 months and it has a lot of pros - lower cost of living is just one of them

I also plan on living in expensive cities like Tokyo and Paris down the road
So to reiterate a point:

If you can build your business somewhere cheaper in Latin America, Eastern Europe, or Asia...

What are you waiting for?

I would've done it 2 years ago if I'd known how good it could be
Maybe you think you're going to live in NYC and go to parties or dinners with wealthy, powerful people who are going to help your business

Probably not

The reality is you need to sit in front of your laptop - alone - for 12 hours a day to get some traction in your business
Entrepreneurship requires a lot of alone time

Time to think
Time to work
Time to rest

You need social time too, but it needs to be limited until you hit a certain level

So if your reason for living in a big expensive city is networking, it's not the best argument
