It’s in vogue to define “Nazi” broadly, as synonymous with “ethnic cleanser.” Under that framework, recall that the Nazis have already long been victorious. Ever since we became human, we have been violently purging our own genetic and cultural diversity. We inhabit the ruins.
Useful knowledge (e.g. facilitating sustainable lifestyles) and genetic variants (e.g. facilitating disease resistance) were erased with the tools of genocide (weapons, germs, authoritarian rule, etc.) over and over throughout the millennia, by peoples from all over the world.
We didn’t lose everything. But centuries of blitzkrieg have left us cradling a few smoldering artifacts of humanity. How precious and paltry our remaining differences are. And how misguided to squabble over them or to treat them as insurmountable hurdles to our species’ unity.
