1/? Here we go then, Jean-Claude Juncker's (probably) last ever State of the Union speech. Last year's caused quite a stir. Will J-C look to go out with a bang? Expecting big forays on migration, Rule of Law, foreign & defence policy, & probably a small mention of Brexit. #SOTEU
Juncker unsurprisingly starts out by talking up the current strengths of the EU economy. He points out there are a record 239 million people in work across Europe and youth unemployment stands at 14.8%. Adds: 'That figure is still too high but it's the lowest figure since 2000.'
Juncker says he's proud to have helped Greece stay in the eurozone despite the 'painful years' that caused, and adds: 'I pay homage to the Herculean efforts of the Greek people, an effort that others in Europe still haven't acknowledged sufficiently.'

2/ UK Parliament, you know the one…. its the soveriegn Parliament of the United Kingdom that has the ultimate power to make or end any law in the UK. A fundamental piece of our Constitution.

I digress.
3/ UK Parliament passed 945 Acts of Law between 1993 and 2014, of which 231 implemented EU obligations of some sort, according the House of Commons Library.

Give universal basic income and watch the GDP go through the roof. Everybody who does business is doing more business. Demand goes up. Supply goes up. Rising tide lifts all boats.
The rightwing in this country has spent decades chasing cars on the principle that it plays well, and right now a lot of what is happening is that the generations that grew up watching them are now actually catching the cars.

Maybe it takes us a generation of saying "UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME NOW" for now to get here. Maybe it takes us a hundred years. Maybe it takes us a revolution. Maybe it takes a cataclysm and a new beginning.

Say it anyway. Make a robust social safety nest look like a compromise.
