@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl Lets talk about the atheist atrocities fallacy. Not enough space to go into too much detail. Might be a long thread. 1/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl Lets talk about the atheist atrocities fallacy. Not enough space to go into too much detail. Might be a long thread. 1/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl Was Hitler an atheist? Maybe - maybe not. I do not think we will ever know. Hitlers writings on the subject are at odds with themselves. He claimed to be Christian. He also claimed that Christianity was a scourge & disease. 2/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl In 1922 speech "my feeling as a Christian points me to my lord and savior as a fighter..". In Mein Kampf "hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord.". 3/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl Pol Pot lived in a Buddhist monastery for a year before attending Catholic primary school. He was raised Buddhist and then Catholic. 4/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl In one of his early writings: "the democratic regime will bring back Buddhist moralist because our great leader Buddha was the first to have taught [democracy]." 5/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl Given that Buddhism is not about god or gods and more about enlightenment, I would strongly suggest that Buddhism is atheistic. Some will argue that Buddhism is not a religion but rather a philosophy. I would say that Pol Pot was an atheist. 6/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl Starlin was raised an Orthodox Christian. His mother was devout. He trained to be a priest in seminary in Georgia. Later in life, Starlin openly professed his atheism. 7/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl Lets talk about the atheist atrocities fallacy. The atrocities fallacy is a web of fallacious thinking. It starts with tu quoque (you too) fallacy. Tu Quoque is used to dismiss argument by means of deflection. 8/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl This is the main way religious apologists use the atrocities fallacy. There have been religious atrocities, but you too, look at Starlin, Hitler, Pol Pot. 9/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl Lets look at false cause. Anyone who has done some stats course knows the mantra - correlation does not equal causation. Hitler, Starlin and Pol Pot where all non-figure skaters. What can we conclude from that? None of them believed in leprechauns. 10/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl Does the lack of belief in leprechauns cause people to commit atrocities? Without any written or unwritten doctrines of atheism, the theist needs to show that the lack of belief in a god is the causal factor of atrocities committed by these dictators. 11/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl Otherwise it is simple a false cause fallacy that they are arguing. The opposite argument regarding inquisitions, crusades, etc all have direct evidence in the doctrines of the religion that the false cause fallacy is attempting to sweep under the rug. 12/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl Then there is false analogy fallacy. This depends on an analogous factor - belief vs lack of belief in god. Atheism is the answer to one question. Atheism has theism as an analogy - not religion. 13/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl But the tu quoque does not work unless atheism is seen as analogs to some religious belief. For the apologist to not be using false analogy they need to show that atheism is a religion. That is why you hear comments such as "you religion of atheism... 14/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl " or "your religion of science..". 15/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl Lets poison the well. Starlin was an atheist, therefore atheism is bad (murderous, ... insert your description here). But wait, you guys are doing the same thing with say the Spanish Inquisition. 16/17
@Lead1225 @ciferknight @iamAtheistGirl No! The inquisition was demonstrably based on the very foundation of Christian religion. Throwing bad light on, or poisoning the well, cannot be made when there is a legitimate association between the poison and the target. 17/17
