Wow. Peter Smith, the veteran GOP operative who attempted to work with Russian hackers to obtain Clinton’s emails in 2016, raised $100,000 to fund this effort and took steps to ensure that it all remained completely secret. wsj.com/articles/gop-o…
This story completely changed my view of Smith. He was a cunning political operative who used insanely suspicious techniques such as foldering his emails, a technique made infamous by al Qaeda.
The way the story is written strongly suggests that Smith paid Russians in the US $150,000 under the guise of “the Washington Scholarship Fund for the Russian students.” If this is accurate, then we now have a confirmed example of a payment made to Russians from a GOP operative.
