1. One thing that's important to understand that Trump isn't *that* unpopular.

He's unpopular, but on a pretty normal scale.

Gallup approval after ~625 days

Clinton: 42%
Obama: 46%
Trump: 43%

2. This is still low enough to get crushed in the midterms, yes.

But how is someone who is an unindicted co-conspirator and put babies in jail retaining so much support?

I think I big answer is the media, which covers him like any other president

3. The USA Today op-ed by Trump yesterday was a perfect example.

Other presidents wrote USA Today op-eds and those probably weren't fact-checked either.

But those presidents didn't write a piece where every sentence is a lie

4. It's not just USA Today. Here is NBC this morning, repeating Trump's lie as news.

This is in the tradition of presidential coverage: If the president says it, it's news.

Trump takes full advantage of that.

4. So the media has a choice. They can just continue on this path and be complicit in Trump's disinformation campaign.

Or they can recognize Trump is different and change tactics.

Much more on this in my newsletter, Popular Information.

5. P.S. One reason I like writing a newsletter (popular.info) is it incentivizes covering topics that challenge people.

This thread will get less retweets -- because it's delivering a message that some folks don't want to hear -- but is also important.
