THREAD. So my daughter is in hospital struggling with a very bad labour. She’s got several health conditions, two of them serious. The ward is massively understaffed at night
I was told that they can’t move her or anyone else to the Labour ward atm because there’s only 4 beds there available for the whole of Tameside.
There’s a backlog of women needing to go to the labour ward but they can’t go atm because there was at the time 16 women waiting to be admitted to the labour ward that were walk ins.
No women can be admitted, theres no spare room anywhere for any admissions. They’ve stopped accepting women, any women needing help are. Being refused and told to go to another hospital.
The department is massively understaffed and funding has been cut to a level that its close to becoming unworkable.
Members of staff are becoming stressed and struggling to carry on working there so are having to take sick leave, there’s other absences due to maternity leave etc.
So because of the governments cut backs and the inability of the NHS trust we have women urgently needing to deliver their babies that can’t do so. The midwifes are trying their best to keep mums and babies healthy but they are struggling to cope.
So don’t tell me that the NHS cuts aren’t affecting patients, they are.. They are also potentially putting the life’s of mothers and babies at risk because there’s nowhere to move them.
Good, caring midwifes and nurses are stressed, a midwife told me that she’s struggling to cope with caring for all of her ladies effectively. Her hands are tied and there’s nothing that she can do,.
She told me that there is a situation where they might have to deliver women on the ward but they can’t because there isn’t a spare side room to do this.
So f**k the government, this will be replicated throughout the country on many different wards dealing with all kinds of vulnerable people.
It won’t be long before there’s a serious incident. The midwife was asking us to complain because they are desperate for change. If they don’t get more staff that ward might have to potentially be shut.
The government are doing this and they don’t care one bit.
I’ve just got off the phone to her midwife from last night. They delivered 3 babies last night and there’s still more waiting. They deserve a bloody medal. The government are making their working environment almost impossible. I hate this government.
UPDATE. No new women are being admitted and they are sending the women downstairs upstairs and women downstairs to deliver.
All pre booked inductions and c sections are cancelled until the ladies are seen and downstairs delivering
