Thread. So you might have seen #IDanielBlake last night and were shocked by it. I've been campaigning for approx 5yrs against the inhumane DWP system
I've seen it all, women and children eating the tins of food that we've given them outside the Jobcentre because they were starving. They hadn't eaten properly for days.
This is the system that was created purely to punish the poor for their own poverty. It kills people. People die. People commit suicide because they can't see a way out. In reality there isn't a way out. Universal credit ensures that you stay in poverty
I realised the damage that #UniversalCredit would do, I read the legislation, I started campaigning when my local town was chosen as a pilot area. I shouted as loudly as I could, telling people how awful it would be. Few listened
Except for other campaign groups like the amazing @Dis_PPL_Protest We knew what was coming yet few listened
I'm sick of people not caring unless it's happening to them. If you aren't affected now you most likely will be in the future
I've been spat at, sworn at, shouted at, a colleague was hit by an umbrella by a woman, had G4S security guards threaten to knock us out. Because we help people.
The Jobcentre manager used to phone the police at least twice in two hours about us. We are peaceful and help folk. The police told them to stop phoning. The DWP hate us because we help people.
I've lost friends to suicide, the DWP forcing them to make this decision. It shouldnt be like this but the DWP and the government doesn't give a toss. Remember your just a number to them.
So when Tory party members and mps mock #IDanielBlake it angers me but I'm not shocked. Theyll always deny it but one day we'll hold them responsible for their actions. We are waiting
#UniversalCredit, ESA and PIP assessments and failures destroy people's life's. For most there isn't a way out.
So don't tell me that #IDanielBlake isn't fecking real it is. The evidence is in front of you, around you and one day it might be you. And don't say that we don't have a voice we do, a bloody loud voice that will be heard.
So @AmberRuddHR don't try to pretend that your supposed changes to universal credit are good. They aren't. Don't try to fool us because you want to look good. It's still going to be rolled out and we aren't fooled..

Start helping folk outside Jobcentres instead of behind a keyboard. We need more people doing this. That's if you're able to of course.
