New ruling from DC fed judge slams DOJ and House Rs for asking her to vacate prior orders in an Obama-era document fight re: Operation Fast and Furious — judge says the case was basically already over, and all that's changed is who is in charge at DOJ ecf.dcd.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/show_p…
DOJ and House Oversight had reached a settlement that was conditioned on the judge vacating earlier orders that said the exec branch couldn't assert certain executive privilege on a "blanket basis" in response to doc demands by Congress via subpoena
The judge, US District Judge Amy Berman Jackson (you may remember her from such cases as US v. Manafort), notes that her rulings aren't binding on any other judge, but that judges find their colleagues' decisions "helpful when they are considering difficult questions"
Why does this matter? Should Democrats take the House after the midterms next month, expect to see the rulings in this case cited in future court fights over Dem demands for documents from the Trump administration
