1/ I’ve been pondering the rally in Texas. I lived there for 13 years, loved lots of people and lots of stuff about Texas. This thread isn’t about what’s wrong with Texas. Here are a few salient observations unnoticed by the Morning Joe commentators.

1/ I’ve been pondering the rally in Texas. I lived there for 13 years, loved lots of people and lots of stuff about Texas. This thread isn’t about what’s wrong with Texas. Here are a few salient observations unnoticed by the Morning Joe commentators.
2/ The crowd was 22,000. 22,000? In enormous Texas. The president promised to fill the largest stadium in Texas. On Friday nights in Texas, many high school football stadiums hold close to 20,000 fans. You sure that wasn’t a rally in Rhode Island? This show has lost its mo.
3/ From the shots I saw, the crowd was all white. And, I assume, lots of them are evangelicals -- In Texas.
4/ I remember evangelicals in Texas very differently.
5/ In our church we had a Latino band, an African band, and our regular service band was multi-flavored. The room was full of people from every continent. Just like Texas. I loved it. That all-white stuff is pretty retro, at least in the great cities of Texas.
6/ When the President opens his mouth, lots of lies come out. Poor darlin’, He can’t hep it. (in 13 years, I learned me some Texan.) Politically, the lying is part of a game that Donny does quite well. If he were a guitarist, he’d be good at licks.
7/ I notice that as soon as he starts one of his licks-- about the caravan or about sanctuary cities or about the Democrats or about his imaginary tax cuts-- the younger folks look at each other with delighted grins as the older Trumpsters raise their hands and start clapping.
8/ Of course they know it’s all lies, so why are they so delighted?
9/ Here’s what’s going on. The crowd knows. They know that the Morning Joe commentators and the old ministers up in the Adirondacks and the parents who don’t get Trump and the rebellious kids who’ve gone Democrat --
10/-- everyone who disapproves of Trump -- are all going to go crazy. Right on cue, as he lies and they applaud his lies. We’ll be carrying on about their depravity, and wringing our hands and they know we can’t do anything about it. It’s all naughty fun.
11/ Meanwhile, Latino children are concentrated in tent camps in the desert, the environment is being trashed, journalists murdered, tremendous, pointless debt is being run up, women are being assaulted, Blacks insulted, the country corrupted. Hehehe, aren’t we having fun?
12/ And meanwhile, back in their churches, and probably back in their homes, there are unopened Bibles with their collection of poems silently waiting for someone to listen...
13/.. In those psalms sometimes the poet gives voice to what God told him. From Psalm 101, a song of love and justice, hear verse 7:
“No one who utters lies
Shall continue before my eyes.”

14/ You sure that’s what you want, MAGA? Jesus asks, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?” As you laugh and cheer his lies, you are not Making America Great Again. You are desecrating your souls.
15/ I can sort of see how gaining the whole world in exchange for his crappy little lying soul seemed to Trump like a great deal. But you? You want to participate in and enjoy his lies?
16/ Trump watches your knowing grins when he starts his favorite lies. You’re sharing an intimate secret--He loves me so!
17/ And it’s true that in that nano-second you are the most precious thing on earth to him, because he just loves lying so much and you love him for doing what he loves most.
18/ Would you really risk ceasing before God’s eyes for the fleeting joy of this half-crazed grifter?
