There's a lot of loose talk on Chabahar in Indian media & think-tanks. Chabahar and Gwadar aren’t competing military bases!

This term “String of Pearls” itself is dismissed as silly in serious Indian foreign policy circles. Interestingly, term coined in US Army War College paper
There's still a LOT of work to be done by India & Iran on Chabahar for it to be commercially viable!

Interestingly, "String of Pearls" term coined in US Army War College paper used extensively by Indian journalists on US payroll to try draw India in a conflict with China in the Pacific ocean citing these imaginary threats

Some senior Indian bureaucrats are in fact so stupid that they read US books and think tank papers exclusively, thinking it's quality research. Without even knowing who coined term "String of Pearls" suggesting China encircling India with military bases. This had led to Doklam
Interestingly there was no benefit from Doklam as someone who understands that region told me. There's another point from Doklam that China can use to cut off chicken's neck as easily and at similar distance.

The Americans had led us Indians into that conflict with China

The way people of BJP and RSS go about mocking everything Russian, they shouldn't act surprised when Russia cozies up to Pakistan. US will come to our rescue just like 1962.
Of course foreign policy isn't shaped by egos but India is a junior partner in the India - Russia and can't afford to act in such a fashion. When politicians and children of serving top bureaucrats keep vilifying Russia, don't expect them not to return the favor

It was Nehru's blunder to trust US and that led to 1962 war. Today's China won't defeat India, it will pulverize India
China has put debt trap in Africa. Okay. So? We should be concerned with immediate neighbors - Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh. China took advantage and much of it is because we bungled. So time to get rid of mediocrity

Kind of a big deal this: Iran was key in overthrowing Taliban and has since helped revive Afghanistan's economy and infrastructure, including via India-led project of Chabar port. We forget that large parts of what is now Afghanistan was, just 85 years ago, part of Persia.

1. The reporting over Trump’s India-library comments overshadowing the gruesome moneyhole Afghanistan has become since 2001 US invasion. US taxpayers as well as foreign aid groups dumped around $15.7 billion a year into the country annually — providing around 98% of Afghan GDP.
2. US spent >$110 billion to rebuild Afghanistan since 2002; a 2015 report from Stockholm International Peace Research Institute found that only 10% of the Afghan economy is legitimate. The rest is black market commerce that discourages entrepreneurs from investing and hiring.
3. The money that US spent on rebuilding Afghanistan = Enough for a new Manhattan-New Jersey train tunnel, plus a high-speed rail link from San Diego to Sacramento, and still have $20 billion left over to construct several hundred schools across the US. news.vice.com/en_us/article/…
