Have you bothered to say hello to an elderly relative or neighbour or friend this week?

Does anyone call or visit them?

The elderly, especially those who are house-bound, really need other people to make an effort.
We are on the other side of the hourglass; but still have lots of friends, and can get out and about.

House-bound, v elderly friends, are sad that most of their family and friends have already died.

Short though visits or calls might be, the attention of others matters to them
I’m raising this issue because an old man we knew died, who’d done wonderful things for the community. But his family and most friends died before him.

We didn’t hear about his funeral, so didn’t go.
Apparently few people attended. This is really a sad commentary on our society
Recently a man in our parish died who neither of us knew. My husband thinks we should go to the funeral, because people’s lives should be honored at least by attendance at their death.

This is true.

But maybe we should pay more attention to the living: lonely and house-bound.
