Just accidentally said 'shut up' loudly on the tube when I saw Tony Blair was talking about Brexit again. People are looking at me funny now.
Many of the people who we need to reach hate Tony Blair. Every time he opens his mouth in favour of something, that thing gets labelled with the same hatred they have for him.
If you don't like how the UK has handled immigration you hate Tony Blair from not using the restrictions which were available under EU law at the time.
If you're a hard left brexiter you hate New Labour. Can the media PLEASE stop using controversial figures. It clouds the debate!

I don't have a party to run / election to win, so maybe it's rich of me to stand on principle; maybe I'm naive, but...
I'm not willing to pretend that a good Brexit deal is possible just because I'm scared people (who I should have won over on Brexit) might think I'm ruining it.
I get why some might choose that due to their own strategic priorities. But if we go down the path of "keep trying Brexit until every last person is convinced it can't work":
a) We risk crashing out.
b) People would blame the EU not Brexit #HowWeGotInThisMess
c) It's dishonest
🔻The Tories want to endanger the Belfast Agreement which the EU won't allow. And even this Brexit will be rejected.
🔻Labour's Brexit must meet the 6 tests. That means Single Market & Customs Union. Parliament would never approve that for the same reasons we're stuck now.

#brexit seems to be all about feeling over fact and this is especially true of the ReesMogg ERG faction of the Tory right.
I never bought the line that #brexit is about Democracy because most of the Tory right had zero enthusiasm for improving democracy in the UK few of them care about unelected house of lords the unfair FPTP electoral system or transparency on the contrary
Most of the Tory right are interested only in constitutional changes that suit them and if anything strive to be as little democratically accountable as possible.

1. They say the leave side lied in the #Brexit referendum. As it happens, everybody did. That's what politics is. Lying. It's a fight between you, me and the swamp. It's always a battle for the disengaged middle. This is why Jacob Rees-Mogg lies so brazenly.
2. The man is no idiot. The man knows his lies are transparent to anyone with half a clue. But he knows his target audience doesn't have any clue at all. The image he projects has an air of authority. It's about getting people to believe in him.
3. He certainly doesn't give a flying fuck about the people he is using. The disengaged middle are just a political resource to be used for as long as is convenient. No lie is too big so long has he gets his version of Brexit.
