OK: skimming throught the Withdrawal Agreement.
Here's the first thing. If either side feel the Irish Protocol is no longer necessary to "achieve the objectives" set out in Article 1(3) - ie, addressing the unique circumstances on the island of Ireland, North-South cooperation
"avoiding a hard border and protecting the GFA in all its dimensions" then both the EU and UK DECIDE JOINTLY within the Joint Committee that the Protocol, in whole or in part, is no longer necessary to achieve its objectives.
So, the first observation is that the backstop coming to an end requires BOTH the EU's and the UK's agreement...

Sooo...happy new year all. And back we are with more of the same. So here's a quick thread on this week's Brexit manoevrings:

1) The European Council on Dec 13 was pretty clear: clarification on the backstop, yes - but no legal instrument (Dublin was particularly against that)
2) Theresa May probably received some face to face nod from other EU leaders that there could be further assurances on the backstop, but nothing in writing. So when 2018 ended no meetings were envisaged, and nothing political or legal formally promised
3) There were phone calls in early New Year (May taling to Tusk, Juncker, Rutte etc) and official level contacts, but nothing of real substance appears to have emerged (there may also have been phone calls between @simoncoveney and David Lidington)

Commission: Today's package includes 14 measures in a limited number of areas where a "no-deal" scenario would create major disruption for citizens and businesses in the EU27. These areas include financial services, air transport, customs, and climate policy, amongst others.

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said he was "very satisfied" with the EU's position on the Irish backstop at last night's summit meeting.
"We as the EU stand by the Withdrawal Agreement that was negotiated, we don't believe it's up for renegotiation, we're very keen to begin, as soon as it's ratified, talks on the future relationship, because we want to have a close relationship with the United Kingdom,"

Here's an interesting ADHD Event I will tell you more about when I'm back from getting food: I'm trying to configure a Samsung phone system and it has had me completely paralyzed for two days
So, Samsung Officeserv 7200; horrible, awful phone system. Miserable. The config interface is like looking into the devil's heart.
I hooked it up yesterday afternoon, been fighting with it ever since. Here's the first thing it does that kills me: The configuration interface is dog-slow. It takes 8-16 seconds to load each page.

Here's a fun thing that happened around 2006:
When flash drives were like 512mb to 1gb, a couple companies figured out a way to jump right up to like 6-8-12gb!
Simple: Don't use flash in your USB drives.
These used MicroDrives, tiny CF-card sized hard drives.
No, really. I love it.
The most famous use of these drives was in the iPod Mini.
But sticking them into a USB drive is an amusing idea.
